About The Position

The primary responsibilities of the Head coach include coaching the team during practices and games, team and travel supervision, and recruiting. The employee must be able to relate effectively with a wide variety of students and individuals in the College community. The College expects this individual to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education, coaching, sports administration or a related field OR any combination of education and experience totaling 7 year(s).
  • Must know how to recruit, schedule, train, teach and report results of the sport coached.
  • Demonstrates capacity to recruit and retain quality-level, competitive student athletes.
  • History of coaching success while maintaining discipline as well as supportive and professional relationships with players.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administration, and other members of the College community
  • Demonstrates integrity and ability to interact in a supportive manner with players while extracting optimum achievement.
  • Demonstrates organizational ability, including experience with complex organizational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation and training of the team; which includes providing supervision and leadership for both practices and competitive activities.
  • Organizes, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates practice sessions and related activities with proper attention to the player’s mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to the physical injury of any athlete and coordinates care of the athlete with the Athletic Trainer
  • Provides an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct and is an ambassador for Snow College on and off the court.
  • Deals fairly and honestly with all persons concerned with the sport.
  • Maintains strong supportive relationships with student athletes and their families.
  • Provides direction and assistance to student-athletes in achieving their academic, athletic, and personal goals.
  • Completes all paperwork required by the National Junior College Athletic Association, and SWAC including athletic eligibility reports and reports of team statistics.
  • Adheres to the NJCAA, SWAC and other relevant sports rules.
  • Represents the College at regional meetings, scheduling meetings, and business meetings related to NJCAA and SWAC activities.
  • Schedules all games with concurrence of the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements for the team assuring that student and staff safety is top priority and that prudent cost-saving measures are considered.
  • Prepares, in a timely manner, all travel requests and travel arrangements.
  • Controls travel funds and reports and balances all travel expenditures.
  • Accompanies and supervises the team on all trips.
  • Performs all duties relative to athletic student recruiting, including correspondence, travel, and coordination of grant awards with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Selects student athletes, with the concurrence of the Athletic Director, of a quality level which allows the college to be competitive
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
