About The Position

The Head Coach is responsible for the administration and organization of a successful athletic program that competes in the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Division III level. This role involves preparing and organizing daily practice sessions, travel schedules, game preparation, and off-season training, as well as devising team rules and expectations. The coach will organize and administer the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, Centennial Conference, and Ursinus College policies. They will also hire, organize, direct, and mentor coaching staff, provide general advising and mentoring to student-athletes to ensure academic progress and eligibility, and manage the allocated budget, including fundraising, alumni relations, and community outreach. Collaboration with athletic training personnel for risk management and safety, and with the Compliance Officer for NCAA regulations adherence, is essential. The coach is expected to field a competitive team, engage in ethical decision-making and sportsmanship, and represent Athletics professionally. All responsibilities are to be executed in a manner that reflects a commitment to the excellence, integrity, and success of the tennis program, the Department of Athletics, and Ursinus College.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Knowledge of rules and techniques of the sport
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, delegation and planning ability
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III and Centennial Conference rules and regulations
  • Experience with recruiting
  • Experience with fundraising

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, schedule and organize daily practice sessions, travel schedules, game preparation for competition, and off-season training; devise team rules and expectations
  • Organize and administer the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, Centennial Conference, and Ursinus College policies and procedures
  • Hire, organize, direct, and mentor the coaching staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the program; support all athletes, coaches and staff on and off the field
  • Provide general advising, mentoring and support to student-athletes and work to ensure their academic progress and ongoing eligibility, keeping the College’s mission and values in mind
  • Responsibly expend allocated budget to ensure that the budget balances each fiscal year and manage all aspects of fundraising, alumni relations and community outreach
  • Engage in regular consultation with athletic training personnel to implement appropriate risk management strategies and maximize the safety and overall wellness of student-athletes
  • Work collaboratively with the Compliance Officer in regards to adhering to all rules and regulations of the NCAA
  • Field a team that will be as competitive as possible within the guidelines set by the NCAA, CC and Ursinus College
  • Engage in ethical decision-making and outstanding sportsmanship; be mindful of representing Athletics in a professional/positive way
