About The Position

The Head Coach is responsible for providing ethical leadership in managing the Field Hockey program, including, but not limited to, fostering a positive team environment, recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, and preparing student-athletes for success through planning, strategy development, and skill instruction. The role involves promoting Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Key responsibilities include identifying, recruiting, and retaining qualified student-athletes, ensuring their academic success, and mentoring them. The coach must also maintain program compliance, manage financial records, and collaborate with athletic department staff on budget and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values, and goals of Alvernia University.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Successful experience as a student-athlete and/or coach.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration.
  • Commitment to being a good colleague and team player.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, strong leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills/capabilities.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks/projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive student-athlete experience where the safety, health, and well-being of student-athletes are paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, meeting or exceeding annual recruiting goals.
  • Ensure the academic success of student-athletes by monitoring progress and involving academic support resources when necessary.
  • Foster a positive environment for student-athlete learning and growth, serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Monitor discipline and conduct of student-athletes to foster personal growth and ensure adherence to community standards.
  • Maintain appropriate records and paperwork, ensuring program compliance with university, conference, and NCAA policies.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of all financial transactions, including fundraising.
  • Foster a positive team environment through regular meetings with student-athletes, assistant coaches, and administrators.
  • Work with the Coordinator of Equipment & Operations and the Director of Athletics for budget/purchasing planning.
  • Perform assigned administrative duties based on departmental needs and coach's expertise.
