About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Recreation and Competitive Sports, the Club Women’s Ultimate Head Coach is responsible for the recruitment and management of all aspects of the team in conjunction with the team captains and organization’s executive board. This role involves teaching the fundamentals, skills, and strategy of ultimate, ensuring safety standards, attending league meetings, scheduling games, making decisions regarding player safety and ability, selecting the team, creating game lineups, representing the university, ensuring academic standing, and counseling team members. The coach will also assist with recruitment efforts and manage the balance between individual team needs and time away from campus.

Requirements

High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years prior coaching or playing experience with a competitive Ultimate Frisbee Program.
Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities with a commitment to developing and maintaining a positive and productive playing environment.
Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
First Aid and CPR training is required.
Experience working with an undergraduate population or traditional university-aged students
Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

Teaching the fundamentals, skills, and strategy of the sport of ultimate to the team members.
Being present during all practices and games, ensuring all safety standards and guidelines as defined by the USA Ultimate and Bentley University.
Attending required league meetings.
Working with Team President on scheduling games in accordance with the USA Ultimate governing rules.
Attending Away games and post-season tournaments that may require multiple overnight stays.
Making appropriate decisions regarding the safety and playing ability of team members.
Working with the executive board at try-outs to select the team and then create the lineup for each game.
Representing Bentley University in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the University.
Ensuring all team members are in good academic standing, have completed and filed the appropriate paperwork with Student Programs & Engagement and Athletics (Anti-Hazing, travel forms, Liability, and Indemnity waivers, etc.).
Being available to team members to counsel on matters relating to Club Women’s Ultimate, and team morale.
Meeting as needed with the appropriate Athletic Department Administrative staff and Arena Staff on things pertaining to Club Women’s Ultimate.
Assisting with recruitment and awareness efforts with regards to Club Women’s Ultimate as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, information sessions, university events, community outreach, and related support throughout the season/offseason.
Management of student participants by reinforcing their commitment to academic performance while balancing participation on an extracurricular team.
Manage the balance of individual team needs and time away from campus for practices and games.
