About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a Head Cafeteria Worker for the Dr John Hugh Gillis Regional school. This position is responsible for managing the cafeteria operations under the supervision of the school principal. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, focused on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE serves approximately 5,948 students and 375 pre-primary children across 20 schools and 14 pre-primary locations within the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond.

Requirements

  • Current Food Handlers certificate
  • Experience in the area of food preparation, presentation and service to students and staff
  • A willingness to consult and collaborate regarding cafeteria business plan, weekly menu and pricing
  • Ordering food items and relevant supplies
  • Daily deposits
  • Cash reconciliation and sales reports
  • Preparation and serving of food, kitchen duties as required in co-ordination with the cafeteria team (stocking, cleaning, dishes, etc.)
  • A willingness to be engaged in the school recycling program
  • An interest in working in a school environment
  • Knowledge of and a willingness to build healthy menus and snacks on sound nutritional principles
  • Must provide at least three (3) work-related references; one must be your most recent supervisor
  • Must provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check-Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a school environment is preferable
  • Previous experience in a school cafeteria
  • Educational background in nutritional studies
