About The Position

The Head Baseball Coach will organize, coordinate, and promote a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community, while stressing the importance of academic achievement. The coach must demonstrate high ethics, professionalism, and human relations, serving as a positive role model for all students.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • 3-5 years of previous coaching experience required.
  • Holds or is eligible for First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Complete the State Coaches Education Seminar within three (3) years of employment.
  • Knowledge of the sport or activities sponsored, methods, materials, and best practices for successful student participation.
  • Knowledge of adolescent growth and development.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and administrators.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Maintains school division required certifications.
  • Serves as a role model.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years successful coaching experience is preferred.
  • Playing experience in the sport to be coached is preferred, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Informs students about the program and encourages their participation.
  • Communicates team policies to participants and parents.
  • Works with the Principal to maintain communication and solve problems.
  • Provides positive and appropriate communication to players and parents.
  • Submits required forms to the Athletic Director (e.g., eligibility roster, accident reports).
  • Ensures adequate supervision for all students involved in the program.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and conditioning.
  • Ensures participant safety by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of adverse environmental conditions.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and completes work orders to correct safety hazards.
  • Informs students of available insurance programs.
  • Instructs participants in personal hygiene, safety procedures, and the importance of reporting injuries.
  • Ensures availability of a first aid kit and emergency care cards.
  • Implements appropriate procedures for handling injury situations.
  • Manages issuance, collection, inventory, and storage of equipment.
  • Compiles and maintains accurate individual and team performance records.
  • Organizes and coordinates fund-raising activities following proper procedures.
  • Prohibits the use of steroids or drugs.
  • Monitors academic performance of athletes and provides academic assistance.
  • Monitors academic eligibility of student-athletes and maintains records.
  • Organizes preseason parent orientation meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for distribution, collection, and upkeep of uniforms and equipment.
  • Submits an annual written report evaluating the program with recommendations.
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practices effectively.
  • Models good judgment and positive behavior, maintaining professional conduct.
  • Participates in special activities (e.g., parent’s night, banquets, awards night).
  • Promotes the athletic program by reporting scores to the media.
  • Collaborates with administration to develop a competitive schedule.
  • Complies with time constraints for practice and contest schedules.
  • Provides supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Collaborates with staff to prepare budgets and travel arrangements.
  • Attends and participates in conferences, clinics, and seminars.
  • Demonstrates appropriate conditioning, skill training, and tactical training.
  • Monitors academic achievement to support college exposure/recruiting.
  • Establishes seasonal objectives and goals.
  • Maintains a weekly and monthly practice schedule.
  • Distributes team rosters and contest schedules.
  • Maintains sport-specific website in coordination with the school website.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal/designee.
