As a HD Chemical Operator, you will follow work instructions, procedures, and product specifications. You will add specified amounts of raw materials into vessels or blending tanks and set valves to feed liquid and solid materials through equipment units. This role involves setting controls in a specified sequence on a control panel to start automatic feed, weighing out quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals according to formula sheets, and starting and monitoring the feed of solid or semi-solid materials through equipment units like mills, heating vessels, and mixing tanks. You will also dump pre-weighed ingredients into tanks, hoppers, or mills, and adjust controls and valves to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels. Observing chemical reactions, monitoring gauges, samples, and data recorders, and making specified operating adjustments based on notifications from the analytical laboratory, supervisor, or other workers are key responsibilities. Additionally, you will observe gauges and instruments, turn valves, and move controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents through the system to effect prescribed reactions within critical limits. You will also draw samples of product at specified stages of synthesis and perform standard tests to ensure manufacturing is proceeding efficiently and in conformity with specifications. Finally, you will attach hoses, pumps, or transfer equipment to move completed slurry to a holding area or manufacturing coating equipment.
