About The Position

The Hatchery Operator position at Hayes Hatchery is a 1st shift role responsible for various tasks within the hatchery. This includes operating machinery, performing maintenance, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and assisting with the chick hatching process. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently at times. The operator must be able to work in damp and warm conditions, lift significant weight, and perform tasks as directed by management.

Requirements

  • 6 months of work history in the last 12 months, documented within the application's work history and/or resume.
  • Ability to work in damp/warm conditions.
  • Ability to lift/push 40 plus pounds.
  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift (usually 10 hours with two unpaid 30-minute breaks).
  • Ability to perform bending, twisting, and turning of the body.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, climbing, bending, reaching, and rolling buggies.
  • Ability to obtain lockout tagout certification.
  • Ability to obtain a pallet jack license.
  • Ability to obtain a moffett license.
  • Must wear a respirator when dispensing formaldehyde (no beard older than 24 hours, and mustache must be cropped at the corners of the mouth).

Responsibilities

  • Understand labels, read recipes, and follow instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with management and maintenance.
  • Perform machine checks and document findings.
  • Start generators and perform some maintenance on machines.
  • Ensure safety and keep the work area free of clutter and tripping hazards.
  • Pull chicks, grade chicks, perform breakouts, wash trays and machines, move buggies, and clean.
  • Place chickens in houses, mix vaccine, dispense formaldehyde, and run embrex machines.
  • Assist with traying and setting eggs.
  • Perform other duties as tasked by administration.
  • Observe all of Tyson's policies and procedures.
