About The Position

Hatchery maintenance mechanics are responsible for keeping all hatchery equipment running and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment. This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and technical school training is preferred. The job involves working with various equipment including separators, tray washers, macerators, vacuum systems, hatchers, setters, A/C units, heaters, chick counters, evaporative coolers, Intelliject machines, drains, light fixtures, Recam setters, generators, and chillers. Additionally, mechanics will replace wheels on farm racks and hatcher dollies, fix anything that needs repair, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Must be able to bend, squat and lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform some overhead lifting of about 20 lbs when working in setters.
  • Must be able to work in temperature up to 100 degrees in setters.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder at times carrying about 15 lbs.
  • Must have electrical knowledge and able to work with electricity.
  • Must be able to climb stairs onto the roof once every month.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to perform, with or without accommodations, repetitive motion including back, shoulder, arm, wrist, hand, and finger movement.
  • Must be able to lift at least 70 lbs. from floor level to heights not less than full extension of the arm and forearm above the head not less than 30 times in a three-hour period.
  • Must be able to walk distances exceeding 100 feet one way not less than 30 times in a three-hour period and covering an area that exceeds 5 acres.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend staircases with at least 30 stair treads not less than 30 times in a three-hour period.
  • Must be able to work in confined or restricted work areas not less than 3 hours in duration.
  • Must be able to work in wet working conditions with temperature ranges below 0 to above 95 degrees Fahrenheit for not less than ten hours at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Keep all hatchery equipment running.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Replace wheels on farm racks and hatcher dollies.
  • Fix anything that needs repair.
  • Replace light fixtures.
  • Clean filters and wash out A/C units and make repairs as needed.
  • Work with electricity such as wiring, motors, light fixtures, running conduit, replacing motors and working around electronic control boards.
  • Perform repetitive motion including back, shoulder, arm, wrist, hand, and finger movement.
  • Lift at least 70 lbs. from floor level to heights not less than full extension of the arm and forearm above the head not less than 30 times in a three-hour period.
  • Walk distances exceeding 100 feet one way not less than 30 times in a three-hour period and covering an area that exceeds 5 acres.
  • Ascend and descend staircases with at least 30 stair treads not less than 30 times in a three-hour period.
  • Work in confined or restricted work areas not less than 3 hours in duration.
