About The Position

The purpose of this position is to clean and disinfect the interior and exterior of hatchers, eliminating all chick debris and bacteria. This role involves scraping, scrubbing, shoveling out chick down, spraying with a pressure hose, applying acid at times, and disinfecting. The Hatcher Washer is responsible for cleaning the hatcher hallway daily and climbing on top of hatchers to ensure they are clean. They must also keep all equipment in a clean and usable condition and maintain production requirements by cleaning out 35-40 hatchers per shift. Additionally, the role includes unloading and re-loading buggies from hatchers. The position requires participation as a member of a team, fostering cohesiveness, accepting responsibility, and identifying areas that lack cohesion. Team members are expected to support the team leader and work collaboratively to resolve issues and achieve synergy. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) is expected, along with understanding the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns or improvement ideas. Requirements

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes, on feet for entire shift.
  • Must be able to push/pull 1000 pound wheeled buggies, full and empty of poultry, up to 50 feet.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds of equipment or product anywhere from the floor to above shoulder height at various times throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to climb 10 steps on a ladder and work at an elevated level of 10 feet at various times throughout the shift.
  • Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate understanding of Hazardous Communications and the proper methods of use of chemicals.
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Communication skills & decision quality- Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans hatchers by scraping, scrubbing, and shoveling out chick down, spraying with a pressure hose, applying acid at times, and disinfecting.

  • Maintains production requirements by cleaning out 35-40 hatchers per shift.
  • Unloads buggies from hatchers to clean hatchers and re-loads clean buggies when completed.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
