Hardware Test Engineer II

Parallel Systems•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

Parallel Systems is developing autonomous battery-electric rail vehicles intended to shift portions of U.S. freight transportation from trucking to rail. The Hardware Test Engineer II validates the performance of these vehicles and their subsystems, working with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to derive test requirements and build the associated test infrastructure and processes. The role contributes to a reliable, scalable testing ecosystem and spans a range of technical projects at an early-stage company. The engineer designs and maintains test solutions for in-house electronics, builds and supports test benches for development and software regression testing, develops Python test cases, and creates test documentation. The position also supports testing and data analysis, identifies root causes of issues, tests vehicles at Parallel facilities and customer sites, and mentors colleagues. Success in the first 90 days includes learning the vehicle and subsystem requirements, designing and integrating a test bench, automating its operation, and supporting regression and ongoing testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering.
  • Experience using common test equipment, such as power supplies, DAQs, DMMs, and oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency interpreting electronics schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Software development experience in Python, C, C++, Rust, or a similar language.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing or hardware validation/acceptance testing.
  • Experience with environmental testing, such as MIL-STD-810 or IEC 60068.
  • Experience testing power electronics, including power converters, battery chargers, and motor controllers.
  • Experience with optics calibration and testing.
  • Experience with soldering, crimping, and other hand tools for electronics integration and repair.

Responsibilities
