Hardware System EE Architect

Apple•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

The Home Hardware team is seeking a motivated and creative Hardware Architect to define, architect, and build future Apple home product concepts. This 0-to-1 role focuses on early-stage product exploration at the intersection of hardware, software, and user experience, working with a cross-functional team of mechanical, software, and controls engineers to architect complex systems. The Home Hardware System EE Architect is responsible for electrical definition and feasibility studies for early-stage concepts. The work spans high-level system architecture and hands-on bench-level evaluation of key systems. The role researches and selects sensors, compute architectures, power electronics, and electromechanical technologies, and drives electrical architecture from initial concept through a functioning system. The architect collaborates with mechanical, controls, perception, and software teams to develop and integrate hardware systems for future Apple products. The role owns critical aspects of electrical architecture and implementation for systems combining real-time control, dynamic power loads, and multi-modal sensing. Success requires technical expertise, product intuition, and a systems-level mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in hardware design, specifically in architecture and R&D environments.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals across digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power delivery (DC-DC) design.
  • Proven experience in system-level architecture and component selection for embedded systems, consumer electronics, or mechatronics.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring up, debug, and validate mixed-signal designs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering or a similar field.
  • Experience leading teams through the product development cycle from concept development to production bring-up.
  • Experience architecting real-time control systems, synchronized sensor/actuator timing, and deterministic communication buses.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards and practices such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in emerging sensing technologies and sensor design.
  • Ability to take a methodical and insightful approach to data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill information.

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical architecture and conduct feasibility studies for early-stage product concepts.
  • Research and select sensors, compute architectures, power electronics, and electromechanical technologies.
