We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a Hardware Engineer-related occupation.
  • System-level knowledge, including hardware, software, and their interactions
  • Mobile phone hardware subsystems, including application processor, multimedia, GPU, modem and wifi
  • Optimizing software for power and performance improvements
  • Linux kernel and Android system
  • Debugging and root cause analysis for system issues (code, firmware, software, hardware, operational) or Troubleshooting system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware and software teams to model power consumption and define power targets
  • Analyze and optimize the software running across the key components of the chipset (SoC) like CPU, GPU, Memory Subsystem and Connectivity
  • Debug and resolve battery drain issues
  • Collaborate with Android app teams across Google to help them optimize power
  • Develop tools and tests for validating and monitoring power consumption
