About The Position

Emerson’s Test and Measurement Systems group (formerly known as NI) Product R&D has an immediate opening for a Senior Digital Hardware Engineer within our Integrated Products design team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work throughout the product lifecycle to develop products and systems that expand the test and measurement industry's capabilities. Digital engineers within our Test and Measurement Systems business group stand at the intersection of the many disciplines required to make new products come to life, making this role critical to the team's success. Through your work you will have opportunities to continue to expand your digital design skills by learning from experienced technical leaders and participating in initiatives to grow the craft of digital design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in digital hardware design.
  • Experience using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog to implement synthesizable logic targeting FPGAs.
  • Experience using schematic capture and board layout tools for PCB design.
  • Located within a commutable distance to NI’s offices in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Experience bringing up prototype hardware.
  • Familiar with common clock domain crossing methods.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design.
  • Knowledge of static timing analysis and experience writing timing constraints.
  • Familiar with board level signal integrity simulation tools.
  • Experience writing and executing test plans to verify board level digital circuits.
  • Experience writing testbenches and simulation models to verify logic designs.
  • Familiar with common benchtop instruments such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, and power supplies.
  • Familiar with Xilinx, Intel or Lattice FPGAs and CPLDs, as well as their design tools.
  • Experience collaborating with other technical disciplines such as Analog, Software, Mechanical, and RF.
  • Knowledge of RF design practices.
  • Familiar with semiconductor, transportation, and/or aerospace test industries.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary hardware engineering teams to develop test and measurement products.
  • Develop register maps and generate documentation to ensure clear design intent to the broader project team.
  • Own the full FPGA design, including logic implementation, data movement and analysis, testbenches, compilation, and timing analysis.
  • Own all aspects of digital board level design, including schematic entry, layout guidelines, signal integrity simulations, and prototype validation.
  • Develop and execute plans for prototype hardware bring-up and board level validation.
  • Be the voice of digital design in project meetings by estimating level of effort for design tasks, providing input on status of work, and proactively raising technical concerns.
