About The Position

Hall Advisor is a full-time, live-in position within an on-campus residence hall at Brigham Young University (BYU). The role involves representing BYU and Residence Life professionally, facilitating a positive academic, spiritual, and social environment for residents, and supporting student development and community building. The position requires adherence to the university's mission and values, including those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The hall advisor apartment may accommodate the hall advisor and his/her family, with specific limitations on the number and age of children.

  • Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend to be hired and to remain in any position at BYU.

  • Hall advisor apartment may accommodate the hall advisor and his/her family (family is defined as hall advisor, spouse, and dependent children).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate community development among residents, including training Resident Assistants (RAs) in community development and the community standards process.
  • Act as a resource for students, mentor them, and address concerns and inappropriate behavior through education, interviews, and collaboration with area managers.
  • Educate residents on Housing Guidelines, University Policy, health, safety, and legal violations, and implement the behavioral process when necessary.
  • Interpret and disseminate Housing Guidelines to residents.
  • Supervise Resident Assistants (RAs), including hiring, training, coordinating schedules, and mentoring them on the mission of Residence Life and BYU.
  • Advise Hall Councils and Hall Presidents regarding hall activities and support recruitment for area RHA.
  • Coordinate building custodial concerns, inspect buildings for cleanliness and repairs, and follow through on work orders.
  • Conduct regular cleanliness inspections of resident rooms and apartments, and train residents on cleaning practices.
  • Facilitate building safety and security, including locking doors, conducting monthly inspections of safety equipment, and responding to emergencies.
  • Act as Emergency Building Coordinator during emergencies, including evacuations and accounting for residents.
  • Train residents in emergency procedures and conduct evacuation drills.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily involvement and submit detailed reports to management.
  • Attend required staff meetings, team meetings, and training programs, including RA training.
  • Promote re-occupancy and provide housing services to summer guests.
  • Assist in assigned projects and determining resident room assignments.
