About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Head Gymnastics Coach, the Gymnastics Choreographer is responsible for designing, developing, and refining artistic gymnastics routines for athletes during the summer season. This role focuses on creating engaging, level-appropriate choreography that highlights each gymnast’s strengths while aligning with competition requirements. The Gymnastics Choreographer collaborates closely with coaches and athletes to enhance performance quality, creativity, musicality, and execution. This is a seasonal position, typically operating during the summer months, with a primary focus on routine development rather than daily coaching instruction.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age (or turning 16 within 30 days of application).
  • Previous experience in gymnastics choreography, dance, or competitive gymnastics required.
  • Strong creativity, musicality, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt routines as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong understanding of gymnastics scoring, routine composition, and artistic presentation preferred.
  • Experience working with youth athletes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design gymnastics routines by creating original floor and/or beam choreography tailored to athletes’ skill levels, strengths, and competitive requirements.
  • Collaborate with coaching staff to ensure choreography aligns with current skill progressions and competition expectations.
  • Teach and refine choreography by working directly with athletes to ensure proper timing, expression, and execution of movements.
  • Incorporate artistry and performance elements by emphasizing musical interpretation, body movement, expression, and creativity.
  • Adjust routines as needed based on athlete progress, feedback, or rule changes to maximize scoring potential and athlete confidence.
  • Provide constructive feedback to athletes to improve performance quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Ensure routines are developmentally appropriate and safe while supporting long-term athlete growth.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes and coaches to ensure clarity, alignment, and a positive experience throughout the choreography process.
  • Promote a positive team culture by modeling YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all YMCA abuse prevention and risk management policies, including required trainings, mandated reporting, and monitoring of high-risk areas.
