About The Position

The Front Climbing Club is seeking a Gym Staff / Adult Programming Instructor for a hybrid role. This position involves splitting time between front desk operations and coaching adult climbers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for climbing, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage both customer service and instructional duties. The role is full-time and involves working across the Salt Lake City and South Main locations. Responsibilities include welcoming members, managing memberships, handling sales, maintaining the gym, ensuring safety on the climbing floor, leading adult climbing classes, and assisting with new hire training. The position reports to both the Gym Manager and the Adult Programming Manager.

Requirements

5+ years of experience across work, school, or trade training
At least 1–2 years of climbing instruction or coaching experience
Genuine love for climbing and desire to share that passion
Natural communicator who can motivate a room and read member/student needs
Comfortable running a register and coaching technique
Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
CWI certification (or willingness to obtain)
Utah Alcohol Cert (company will help obtain)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to move around the gym floor for extended stretches
Ability to demonstrate climbing technique
Detail-oriented and self-motivated
Comfortable in MS Office (Excel, Outlook)

Responsibilities

Welcome members and guests, run them through waivers, and show off what makes our gyms great
Handle membership sign-ups, updates, and paperwork
Answer calls, quote pricing, and hype up upcoming events and merch
Ring up sales, process returns, and help out at competitions and markets
Keep things clean - daily upkeep, deep cleans, the works
Walk the facility, flag issues on a tablet, and keep management in the loop
Watch the climbing floor for safe belay technique, proper tags, and rule-following
Run belay tests, autobelay orientations, and step in when you spot unsafe behavior
Lead adult programming classes for climbers of all levels
Help new hires learn the ropes (pun intended) as part of our training system
Design and adapt instruction so every student improves and has fun doing it
Greet your students by name and bring the energy every session
Call out unsafe habits on the spot, professionally and without hesitation
Pitch in on facility upkeep when needed
