About The Position

The Gym Monitor supervises the gym and surrounding areas under the direction of the program director. Activities may include family basketball, pick-up basketball, youth basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and other activities as requested. The position responds to situations to help ensure the safety of participants and spectators and performs program responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta’s policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives.

The role includes monitoring gym conditions and equipment, setting up and storing equipment, maintaining facility cleanliness and safety, enforcing rules and policies, documenting and reporting incidents and accidents, assisting other staff, and responding to participant inquiries. The Gym Monitor must follow and enforce the YMCA’s Keeping Kids Safe policies and safety protocols, including those related to COVID-19.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Strong human relations and conflict management skills to tactfully enforce rules and regulations.
• Professional appearance appropriate for a family-friendly environment.
• Current state-approved CPR/AED certification required.
• Ability to pass pre-employment criminal record, drug screening, motor vehicle record, and reference checks according to company policy.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
• Ability to see, hear, stand, stoop, and walk unassisted, and lift more than 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• One year or more of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the gym and surrounding areas to ensure the safety and welfare of users.
• Report and monitor mechanical and equipment problems.
• Set up equipment and return it to storage.
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities and equipment.
• Tactfully enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
• Maintain proper documentation and report incidents and accidents.
• Assist other staff.
• Answer participant inquiries and provide information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Abide by and enforce Metro Atlanta YMCA Keeping Kids Safe Policies.
• Abide by and enforce Metro Atlanta YMCA safety protocols, including those related to COVID-19.
