Gym Monitor
About The Position
The Gym Monitor supervises the gym and surrounding areas under the direction of the program director. The role oversees activities such as family basketball, pick-up basketball, youth basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and other activities as requested. The Gym Monitor responds to situations to help ensure the safety of participants and spectators and performs program duties in accordance with the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives. The position also requires compliance with the YMCA’s Keeping Kids Safe Policies and Safety Protocols, including protocols related to COVID-19. The role is based at the Decatur Dekalb Family YMCA. Employment is contingent on passing pre-employment checks, including criminal record, drug screening, motor vehicle record, and reference checks, and on being legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong human relations and conflict management skills to tactfully enforce rules and regulations.
- Professional appearance appropriate for a family-friendly environment.
- Current state-approved CPR/AED certification is required.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background checks, including criminal record, drug screening, motor vehicle record, and reference checks, according to company policy.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Physical ability to see, hear, stand, stoop, walk unassisted, and lift more than 50 pounds.

- One year or more of related experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the gym and surrounding areas to ensure the safety and welfare of users.
- Report and monitor mechanical and equipment problems.
- Set up equipment and return it to storage.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are clean and safe.
- Tactfully enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and report incidents and accidents.
- Assist other staff.
- Answer participant inquiries and provide information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Abide by and enforce the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s Keeping Kids Safe Policies.
- Abide by and enforce the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s safety protocols, including those related to COVID-19.
