About The Position

This position involves hosting rental groups at Camp Arnold, which is a Christian camp owned and operated by The Salvation Army. The mission of the camp is to use nature and the outdoors to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach environmental awareness, encourage pro-social behavior, and provide opportunities for fun and adventure. The Guest Group Host is responsible for all logistic arrangements between the camp and guest groups during their stay, ensuring a successful and high-quality experience for the guests. Flexibility and accommodation are key, as the ministry and reputation depend on consistent quality service.

Requirements

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate a telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
  • Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure readiness of all camp facilities for incoming rental groups, including checking and preparing buildings, utilities, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare beverage counter, maps, and registration area before group arrival.
  • Orient retreat staff to camp policies and emergency procedures, and instruct them on radio usage or provide contact information.
  • Inform group leaders of the gate code for their group.
  • Orient the entire group to camp policies and emergency procedures during the first meeting.
  • Assist with table set-up in the dining room 45 minutes before meal times.
  • Re-supply and clean the beverage counter during meal times.
  • Check with retreat staff at each meal to offer assistance.
  • Instruct the group on dining room procedures at the first meal.
  • Assist in serving meals as needed by the cook.
  • Perform dishwashing duties if no dishwashers are scheduled.
  • Check and clean public bathroom areas.
  • Re-set meeting areas and check for cleanliness.
  • Be available to assist retreat staff and let them know your location.
  • Periodically check with retreat staff for any assistance needs.
  • Fix and repair problems in a timely manner, or contact someone who can assist if unable to make repairs.
  • Inform retreat staff about the status of repairs or actions being taken.
  • Monitor group schedules for special requests.
  • Answer the camp phone if no one else is in the office and deliver messages for the group.
  • Conduct rounds at 10:00 pm to turn off lights in unused areas and remind groups of the "last one out" policy.
  • Review and make recommendations to the Guest Services Manager during check-out.
  • Walk through cabins to assess any damage that may have occurred and leave a note for the Guest Services Manager if damages are found.
  • Turn off lights and heaters, and lock all doors in lodging, gym, meeting rooms, and dining room after group departure.
  • Turn off lights, heat, shut windows, and lock doors in any other program buildings used by the group.
  • Take remaining trash to the dumpster.
  • Prepare and file a written debrief for each user group.
  • Document problems or repairs and submit them to the Operations Manager.
  • Turn off lights in the kitchen and lock it up.
  • Build a fire in the campfire pit or fireside room.
  • Shuttle coffee to meeting rooms.
  • Locate sports equipment.
  • Reset tables and chairs.
  • Assist the Guest Services Coordinator with other duties as requested.
