About The Position

Hesed House is a faith-based organization and a national model for ending homelessness. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we serve more than 1,000 people annually with shelter, meals, showers, laundry, case management, and connections to housing, healthcare, legal aid, and job coaching. The Role: You'll be on the front line of our adult shelters, working alongside directors and shift leads to keep daily operations running and make sure every guest is treated with dignity. No two days are the same.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb stairs throughout your shift
  • Ability to pass DCFS and criminal background checks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations
  • Street smarts
  • Spanish/English bilingual skills

Responsibilities

  • Build respectful, supportive relationships with guests while keeping professional boundaries
  • Keep the shelter safe, clean, and running smoothly, including meals, laundry, and general upkeep
  • Respond calmly and make sound decisions in tense or crisis situations
  • Model everyday life skills and encourage guests on their path forward
  • Pitch in across other Hesed programs as needed
