About The Position

The Shelter Support Staff is responsible for monitoring the activities of residents in the shelter/center, ensuring compliance with program rules and expectations. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety of residents and the security and sanitation of the program. The Shelter Monitor will oversee assigned responsibilities and take necessary actions consistent with organizational policies, program guidelines, and professional judgment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years’ experience working with low-income/at-risk/homeless individuals or vulnerable populations, strongly preferred.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
  • Driver’s License with a clear record.
  • Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to various locations as business needs dictate.
  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, structured environment that meets client needs while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and management staff.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate written records of shift events and thorough incident reports.
  • Document all serious incidents completely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Consult with direct supervisor or supervisor on-duty regarding residents’ personal needs and behavior.
  • Utilize positive behavioral management techniques, including verbal redirection.
  • Assist residents in processing issues and problem-solving within established limits.
  • Monitor all shelter areas to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Perform hyper-sanitization of all areas in the shelter.
  • Respond to residents’ requests, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Address procedural violations with residents to ensure clear understanding of expectations and assist with compliance.
  • Conduct resident orientations/assist with intake, assign beds and lockers, and issue linens/personal supplies.
  • Brief and provide direction and assistance to volunteers and other staff.
  • Conduct regular inspections and document opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify and respond to clients/residents experiencing problems or crises to ensure their safety and notify other service providers.
  • Teach good personal hygiene skills.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
  • Gain a working knowledge of policies.
  • Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
