About The Position

Curtis Lumber, a family-owned building materials retailer founded in 1890, is seeking experienced and hard-working individuals to join their team as Evening Guards at their Ballston Spa location. This role supports company facilities and operations, ensuring safety and security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The schedule involves a combination of weekday and weekend evenings. Observe operation of propane station to ensure safe dispensing
Observe arriving/departing personnel for security and safety reasons
Observe departing Company trucks/vehicles for safety issues
Periodically patrol buildings and grounds
Record data such as unusual occurrences, property damage or malfunctioning equipment
Sign out/in transfer trucks going to other Branches
Log rail cars in/out
Monitor video surveillance system
Identify trespassers and address as needed
Notifies authorities of suspicious or criminal acts
Address parking issues as needed
Check in/out vendor trucks/vehicles and give direction as needed
Handle onsite emergencies and provide traffic control when necessary
Handle emergency phone calls from Branches and notify the appropriate Departments/Management
Notify EMS/Police/Fire in case of emergencies
Take alarm calls from Mahoney and address as needed
Assist with incidents when needed
Mentor fellow Employees as needed for their continued improvement
Spot check inventory of items when needed
Assist customers in seasonal area when needed and you are not by yourself
Check customer propane tanks for expiration and condition when you are not by yourself
Give directions to “Lost” customers and vendors
Complete assigned projects

Responsibilities

Support company facilities and operations, including inspections of property and buildings.
Identify safety issues and address them or contact the Building Maintenance/Loss Prevention Manager.
During snow/ice events, maintain the area(s) around the Guard Shack, Gates, and Corporate Building, and ensure a path to the generator.
Observe the operation of the propane station to ensure safe dispensing.
Observe arriving/departing personnel for security and safety reasons.
Observe departing Company trucks/vehicles for safety issues.
Periodically patrol buildings and grounds (night and special circumstances during the day).
Record data such as unusual occurrences, property damage, or malfunctioning equipment (night).
Sign out/in transfer trucks going to other Branches.
Log rail cars in/out.
