About The Position

The Guard serves as a night guard at Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) District 07 in Lake Charles. The position supports public safety after regular hours by receiving and responding to incoming calls from the public, law enforcement, and bridge tenders. The Guard routinely patrols DOTD District 07 complex facilities and protects grounds, equipment, and materials from theft, weather, vandalism, damage, or loss. The role may also involve emergency and disaster support activities and other duties as necessary.

The position pays $26,707 annually. Work hours follow a schedule of seven days on and seven days off. The appointment may be probational, open to all qualified applicants, or by detail to special duty. A criminal background check is required. No experience or training is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; a current Louisiana driver's license may be required. Applicants with a felony conviction or pending felony indictment are disqualified unless they have received relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal law.

Responsibilities

• Routinely make rounds of DOTD District 07 complex facilities during the assigned shift.
• Inspect grounds or job sites to safeguard equipment and materials against theft, weather, vandalism, damage, or loss.
• Respond to emergencies affecting the area by promptly reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities for direction or action.
• Receive and route calls to the proper authorities.
• Receive and respond to incoming calls from the public and law enforcement; the role description also refers to calls from bridge tenders.
• Perform other duties as necessary, including emergency and disaster support activities.
