About The Position

This position provides care, safety, and education for children at the Child Development Center. The role requires advanced knowledge of Nebraska State Licensing Standards and NAEYC accreditation standards. The Group Supervisor is responsible for creating and implementing classroom management practices, developing indoor and outdoor learning environments, and executing age-appropriate social-emotional experiences with positive behavioral guidance. A key aspect of the role is partnering with families to ensure quality and consistent care and education, including collaborating on culturally appropriate curriculum and leading parent-teacher conferences. The position also involves supervising Child Development Center Support Staff, including onboarding, training, modeling best practices, providing feedback, and completing evaluations. The Group Supervisor will participate in Center team meetings and activities, supporting colleagues and promoting a solution-focused leadership style. In the absence of the Director/Assistant Director, they will assist in performing essential functions. Additionally, the role oversees Early Childhood Education Program students, providing feedback, communicating with instructors, completing evaluations, and attending collaborative meetings. Building relationships with other Southeast Community College programs and departments is also a responsibility. A willingness to participate in events outside of regularly scheduled hours is expected. Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Development, or Early Childhood Education.
  • One (1) year of experience working with children in a group care setting.
  • Six (6) months of supervisory experience.
  • First Aid/ CPR Certification within 2 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care, safety, and education for the Child Development Center children.
  • Monitors and meets the child/teacher ratio in assigned areas.
  • Maintains accurate assigned group attendance and records.
  • Creates and implements classroom management practices, including room design and upkeep, daily schedule, weekly lesson plans with an emphasis on individualization, completion of screening and assessment tools, and meeting basic caregiving needs.
  • Develop indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences.
  • Execution of age-appropriate social-emotional classroom experiences combined with the use of positive, strength-based behavioral guidance.
  • Partner with families to provide quality and consistent care and education for all children.
  • Collaborate with families to plan a culturally appropriate curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and interests.
  • Communicates with families in a variety of formats.
  • Leads parent/teacher conferences supported by screening and assessment tools.
  • Assisted in the planning and execution of Center-planned family and staff activities and events.
  • Supervises Child Development Center’s Support Staff: Onboarding and training, modeling best practices, supervising in the classroom, providing feedback through written and oral communication, completing evaluations, and communicating observations and needs to the Center Director.
  • Participates in Center team meetings and activities.
  • Supports the Center and colleagues through both verbal and non-verbal actions at all times.
  • Promotes a solution-focused, strength-based leadership style.
  • In the absence of the Director/Assistant Director, assists in performing essential functions of the Director/Assistant Director, which may include, but are not limited to: monitoring the front desk and entrance, parent communication and assistance, classroom oversight, monitoring ratios, and supervising scheduled staff.
  • Oversees Early Childhood Education Program students enrolled in laboratory courses.
  • Provides feedback and guidance through written and oral communication.
  • Communicates and cooperates with Program instructors on the performance and progress of Program students.
  • Completes evaluations for submission to Early Childhood Education Program Instructors.
  • Attends collaborative meetings and other joint opportunities and events initiated by the Early Childhood Education Program.
  • Builds relationships with all Southeast Community College programs and departments through attending college staff meetings and events, and participating in planning committees as assigned.
  • Willingness to participate in some events/activities/meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours.
