About The Position

We are looking for a highly motivated, relationship-driven sales professional to join our team as Group Sales Manager – Social & Affinity Markets. This position will be responsible for proactively developing and managing group business within the social, military, educational, religious, fraternal, nonprofit, cultural, reunion and other affinity-based markets. The ideal candidate is a creative and energetic seller who enjoys building relationships, uncovering new opportunities and converting business while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role is responsible for achieving individual and team revenue goals through proactive prospecting, account development, lead conversion, strategic negotiation and relationship management. The Group Sales Manager will work closely with Revenue Management, Catering, Event Management and hotel Operations to ensure business is both profitable for the hotel and successfully executed for our customers.

  • Familiarity with CRM, hotel sales or sales management systems.
  • Knowledge of hospitality, business and basic financial principles.
  • A four-year college degree in hospitality management, marketing, business or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Two or more years of hotel sales, hospitality sales, event sales or related business-to-business sales experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Marriott systems and practices is a plus.
  • Competitive, curious, relationship-driven and excited about developing new business while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing sales team.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively solicit and develop new group business within assigned social, educational, religious, military, fraternal, nonprofit, cultural and affinity markets.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, religious organizations, fraternal groups, nonprofit organizations, reunions, cultural organizations and other affinity-based customers.
  • Develop new accounts while strengthening and growing existing customer relationships.
  • Conduct proactive prospecting through phone outreach, email, networking, referrals, industry events, community involvement and in-person sales calls.
  • Respond promptly to incoming group opportunities and effectively convert qualified leads into definite business.
  • Sell guestrooms, meeting space, food and beverage and other hotel services while maximizing the total value of each opportunity.
  • Understand customer needs and prepare customized proposals and solutions that position the hotel competitively.
  • Negotiate rates, concessions and contract terms within established hotel guidelines.
  • Conduct site inspections and property tours that showcase the hotel and create confidence in the customer experience.
  • Maintain an active and accurate sales pipeline, including prospecting activity, tentative business, follow-up dates and account development plans.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting and recap information.
  • Identify need dates, booking trends, competitive activity and market opportunities that may generate incremental business for the hotel.
  • Stay current on industry and market trends and make recommendations regarding opportunities that could positively impact revenue.
  • Attend relevant networking events, trade shows, association meetings and community functions to increase hotel visibility and generate new business.
  • Develop strong relationships with meeting planners, organization leaders, referral partners and other decision-makers within assigned markets.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Management to evaluate opportunities and strategically position rates based on demand and business needs.
  • Collaborate with Catering, Event Management, Front Office, Operations and other hotel departments to ensure a seamless transition from sales to event execution.
  • Conduct appropriate post-event follow-up to strengthen relationships, identify future opportunities and drive repeat and referral business.
  • Maintain accurate account, activity and opportunity information within hotel sales systems.
  • Meet or exceed prospecting, appointment, conversion and revenue goals established by the Director of Sales & Marketing on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Contribute positively to the overall sales culture by sharing leads, market intelligence and opportunities with the broader commercial team.
