Group Insurance Underwriter
About The Position
The Smith Group, a subsidiary of Guy Carpenter, is seeking a Group Insurance Underwriter with experience at either a direct Group writer or a Reinsurer. This role involves regular reinsurance underwriting responsibilities, supporting consulting services, and delivering market intelligence to clients. The team is small, collaborative, and values proactive problem-solvers with strong communication skills for direct client interaction. While Portland, Maine is preferred, other office locations may be considered. This is a hybrid role requiring at least three days a week in a Guy Carpenter office.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Group Insurance underwriting.
- Sound understanding of reinsurance and its place in Group Insurance.
- Robust knowledge of the Group product suite – Disability, PFML, Life, Supplemental Health (Dental and Vision a bonus).
- Bachelor’s Degree.

Responsibilities
- Assist partners at MunichRe with reinsurance underwriting support.
- Deliver underwriting support to clients.
- Add to the team's bench strength to deliver market intelligence to clients, including surveys, webinars, white papers, and general research.
