About The Position

Deliver co-occurring substance use disorder treatment in accordance with all Rules, Statutes and Provisions stipulated under the Minnesota Department of Human Services Statute 245G, licensing and Duluth Bethel Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be free of problematic substance use for at least two years immediately preceding hiring and must sign a statement testifying to that fact.
  • Must meet the requirements of 245G.11 subd. 5 regarding licensure or exemption for alcohol and drug counselors.
  • An alcohol and drug counselor must either be licensed or exempt from licensure under chapter 148F.
  • If exempt from licensure under chapter 148F, must meet specific educational and supervised experience requirements (baccalaureate degree with specific major, 120 hours of classroom instruction, 440 hours of supervised experience; OR 270 hours of drug counselor training, 880 hours of supervised experience; OR current certification; OR bachelor's degree with 480 hours of education and 880 hours of practicum; OR 6,000 hours of supervised work experience prior to January 1, 2005).
  • An alcohol and drug counselor may not provide a treatment service that requires professional licensure unless the individual possesses the necessary license.
  • Individuals with a temporary permit may provide substance use disorder treatment services if supervised by a licensed alcohol and drug counselor or a clinical supervisor approved by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, with specific documentation and supervision requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate education groups, group counseling, and individual counseling.
  • Review and update program curriculums while communicating with the Alcohol and Drug Counselor Supervisor.
  • Pursue professional training and skills development and practice with respect to all codes of conduct and ethical boundaries.
  • Provide support duties for other team members or work within other departments as needed.
  • Provide on-call duties as assigned.
  • Model good communications with the treatment team and Bethel staff.
  • Maintain positive public relations.
