About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members, in a group environment, through a prearranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring that the safety of the members is not compromised. The Group Exercise Instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Requirements

  • At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.
  • Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Performance of a variety of exercise routines.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
  • Instructors having a specialized skill such as Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc. must provide verifiable proof of education.
  • Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialized certifications such as and limited to Zumba, Strong, Les Mills, Silver Sneakers etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead members in a group exercise format.
  • Educate members on fitness aspects.
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early for class preparation and member interaction.
  • Introduce yourself and the class format.
  • Inquire about first-time attendees and assess their fitness levels.
  • Ensure clear verbal instructions and an appropriate atmosphere.
  • Monitor participants for correct form and offer variations for different fitness levels.
  • Create a motivational and fun environment.
  • Remove music and return equipment after class.
  • Ensure the room is in order for the next class.
  • Answer participant questions and concerns.
  • Solicit feedback from participants.
  • Refrain from using music with offensive language.
  • Prepare appropriate music for class.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and microphones are ready.
  • Ensure classes begin and end promptly.
  • Follow proper closing procedures if teaching the last class of the day.
  • Find a qualified substitute if unable to teach a scheduled class and notify the Group Exercise Director if there is a problem.
  • Be dependable and consistent in class schedules.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Follow proper time recording procedures.
  • Prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Promote Gold’s Gym and GGX.
