Groundsman - Planting Crew
About The Position
As a member of Moon Valley Nurseries’ Planting Crew, the Groundsman helps install trees and plants for customers. The role involves planting trees, shrubs, and other plants to landscape plans and specifications, using proper spacing, alignment, fertilization, and planting techniques. The employee works with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and complete projects on time while maintaining clean work areas and equipment. The Groundsman also assists with loading and unloading plants, tools, and equipment, uses required personal protective equipment, and follows safety procedures at job sites, including recognizing Blue Stake/811 utility-marking colors. The position requires availability to work any day of the week and involves active outdoor manual labor, potentially in extreme weather conditions.
Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in conditions that may include rain, heat, sun, and wind.
- Ability to frequently reach, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 pounds.
- Availability to work any day of the week.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plant trees, shrubs, and other plants according to landscape plans and specifications.
- Follow proper fertilization and planting techniques to support healthy plant growth and longevity.
- Keep work areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and complete projects on time.
- Assist with loading and unloading plants, tools, and equipment, ensuring accurate counts and proper weight distribution.
- Use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Recognize Blue Stake/811 colors at job sites to help prevent damage to underground utilities.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines.
- Be available to work any day of the week.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
