Groundsman - Planting Crew
About The Position
As a member of Moon Valley Nurseries’ Planting Crew, the Groundsman helps install trees and plants for customers. The role involves planting trees, shrubs, and other plants according to plans and specifications, using proper spacing, alignment, fertilization, and planting techniques. The employee works with the crew to coordinate tasks and complete projects on time, while maintaining clean work areas and equipment and following safety protocols. The position is full-time, based in Irvine, California, and requires availability to work any day of the week. The job may involve travel of up to 25% and outdoor work for extended periods in potentially extreme weather conditions.
Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in potentially extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
- Ability to frequently reach, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 pounds.
- Regular verbal communication with colleagues, managers, and vendors.
- Subject to a motor vehicle record and criminal background check in accordance with applicable fair chance laws, rules, and regulations.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plant trees, shrubs, and other plants according to landscape plans and specifications.
- Follow proper fertilization and planting techniques to promote healthy plant growth and longevity.
- Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and complete projects on time.
- Assist with loading and unloading plants, tools, equipment, and other materials; ensure accurate counts and proper weight distribution.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Recognize Blue Stake/811 colors at job sites to help prevent damage to underground utilities.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
- Be available to work any day of the week.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
