About The Position
The Groundskeeping Supervisor II supervises and assists staff with groundskeeping and related facility-maintenance work at Sunland. Duties include maintaining grounds and buildings, cleaning housing areas and outdoor spaces, moving furniture and materials, assisting other trades and staff with labor tasks, and serving as the direct contact for the Sunland Inmate Program. The supervisor schedules work, processes work orders, maintains tool-control records, and oversees preventative maintenance of equipment assigned to the groundskeeping crew. The role also includes training and evaluating subordinate employees and performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- At least 2 years of experience in groundskeeping.
- Experience supervising employees.
- Experience operating farm tractors and implements.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping techniques.
- Skill in operating a variety of groundskeeping equipment.
- Ability to supervise people.
- Ability to prepare and/or maintain records.
- Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Applicants must be current APD employees to be eligible.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist groundskeeping staff with cutting grass and trees; collecting and hauling tree limbs, leaves, trash, and rubbish; cleaning around houses and other buildings; maintaining ditches, fence rows, and rights-of-way; and controlling weeds.
- Supervise and assist with cleaning parking lots, outdoor recreational areas, and housing areas, including bedrooms, dayrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and laundry rooms, keeping them clean and sanitized on an ongoing basis.
- Serve as the direct contact for the Sunland Inmate Program; assign inmates to work areas and to Sunland supervisors or staff.
- Supervise and assist with moving furniture and equipment and loading and unloading trucks with furniture, building materials, and general supplies.
- Assist trades and staff with labor tasks, such as digging ditches, laying pipe, pulling wire, and loading materials, to support Sunland operations.
- Operate and maintain a preventative maintenance program for equipment assigned to the groundskeeping crew, including trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, bush hogs, and floor-cleaning equipment.
- Schedule groundskeeping work, complete and process work orders, and maintain tool control and tool-control logs.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews and annual appraisals for subordinate employees in accordance with established policy.
- Train employees in effective and efficient methods for completing groundskeeping tasks.
- Assist with eliminating ants, bees, wasps, and other insects as needed across the center.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
