About The Position

The Town of Addison Parks Department is looking for two (2) Groundskeeper I or II's based on qualifications. Under general supervision, performs routine manual labor tasks in support of the activities and operations of the Parks Department.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • On (1) year of landscape maintenance experience and experience operating light equipment used in maintenance is preferred (Groundskeeper I)
  • Two (2) years of landscape maintenance experience (Groundskeeper II)
  • Experience operating light equipment used in maintenance is required (Groundskeeper II)
  • Demonstrated ability to identify various plants and weeds is required (Groundskeeper II)
  • Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Knowledge of work safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of materials and tools used to perform landscape maintenance.
  • Skilled in operating various hand and power tools in accordance with safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • One of the following certifications is preferred: Texas Certified Landscape Professional (TCLP), Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP), Texas Water Smart Certification (TWSCP), Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (TDA) (Groundskeeper II)
  • Minimum one year of exemplary in-house direct on the job training (in-house candidates only) (Groundskeeper II)

Responsibilities

  • Uses manual equipment such as shovels, hoes, rakes and hand saws to perform general grounds maintenance to include digging, raking, leveling, planting, fertilizing, spraying pesticides, and pruning flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Drives pick-up trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles with heavy equipment attached; operates professional type mowers, spray equipment, push mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, chain saws, and other equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
  • Responsible to learn and follow all safety rules, regulations and requirements.
