About The Position

The Building Services Department is seeking a Groundskeeper I to join their team. This is an entry-level position focused on groundskeeping and landscape maintenance duties. The role involves learning proper methods and procedures to complete assigned tasks and becoming familiar with the Georgia State University (GSU) campus. Assignments will support the department's mission to pursue excellence and take the department to the next level.

Requirements

Valid GA driver's license

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or GED
Ability to operate hand tools and equipment used in groundskeeping, such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, shears, trimmers, etc.
Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
Ability to lift to 50 lbs. or more.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

Performs entry-level groundskeeping and landscape maintenance duties.
Learns the proper methods and procedures needed to complete assigned tasks.
Cares for campus grounds, including mowing lawns, watering flowers and shrubbery, and trimming trees and bushes.
Walks assigned campus areas, collecting and removing trash from campus grounds.
Plants trees, flowers, and bushes; rakes and bags leaves.
Sprays lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
Learns to operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and pressure washers for cleaning campus fountains, outdoor furniture, and other campus areas.
Sharpens tools, such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
Assists in plant setups in designated areas for special meetings and events.
Assists in inclement weather duties as assigned when needed, such as clearing snow from sidewalks and other campus areas.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Operates various types of vehicles including, but not limited to ATVs, golf carts, LSVs, full-size light-duty pickup trucks, medium-duty trucks including box trucks and stake bodies.
Tows or trailers which includes open back and enclosed cargo styles, as well as other single axle types and ATV designed trailers.
