About The Position

Chaminade College Preparatory is seeking a Groundskeeper I. The position is responsible for the care, maintenance, and development of the lawns, landscape beds, trees, irrigation systems, and general grounds. Work is performed outdoors and some tasks may be required to be performed regardless of weather conditions. The role involves exposure to loud noise, machinery with moving parts, dirt, dust, debris, chemicals, and foul odors. The Groundskeeper will operate various hand tools, including but not limited to, extension trimmers, hedge trimmers, shovels, chainsaws, weed eaters, rakes, axes, backpack sprayers, pressure washers, and strippers. Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools is essential.

Requirements

Sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
Ability to perform frequent overtime work, which may involve late night or early morning hours.
Must have a valid unrestricted California Driver's License.

Knowledge of equipment used in the development and maintenance of lawns, landscape beds, trees, and general grounds.
Ability to quickly learn proper methods of maintenance, care, and installation of landscape beds, lawns, trees, irrigation systems and general grounds.
Ability to distinguish between different cleaning materials, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, with the ability to read and understand label information.
Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Responsibilities

Operate and perform light-duty maintenance on tractors, riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, chainsaws, backpack blowers, sprayers, rakes, shovels, and other small tools.
Perform care, maintenance, and development of lawns, landscape beds, trees, irrigation systems, and general grounds.
Work outdoors, potentially in various weather conditions.
Operate various hand tools, including but not limited to, extension trimmers, hedge trimmers, shovels, chainsaws, weed eaters, rakes, axes, backpack sprayers, pressure washers, and strippers.
Learn proper methods of maintenance, care, and installation of landscape beds, lawns, trees, irrigation systems, and general grounds.
Distinguish between different cleaning materials, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides, with the ability to read and understand label information.
Adhere to occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Report for work on time and perform duties for an entire workday.
Work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
Perform frequent overtime work, which may involve late night or early morning hours.
