About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Administration Facility Management Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled Grounds Supervisor I responsible for development and landscape maintenance of grounds, to include planning work efforts, assigning staff, and reviewing work. This position will not have any direct reports, but at times will be required to supervise full-time employees, temporary employees, and inmate workers.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of the horticultural practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds.
Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscape work.
Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes.
Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Ability to plan and manage the work.
Preparing for and planting shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns.
Installing hardened landscape structures.
Implementing scheduled landscape maintenance.
Diagnosing diseased shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns and taking remedial action.
Assisting in repair of landscape equipment.
Maintaining beds including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying of plant material.
Requires the use of special tools for cultivation, maintenance and transportation of plants and repair of landscape equipment.
Applying chemicals and water to plants, turf, or plant collection.
