About The Position

Our Highways division is looking to add a Ground Person for the 2025 Road Construction Season. This role will require extensive travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is the responsibility of the Ground person to be proficient and skilled in various types of Rock crusher operations. The grounds person must have knowledge to setup, tear down, and maintain the equipment. Ability to fuel, pre-trip and complete warm-up and cool down operations of equipment and generators. Daily inspections of equipment guarding and other plant components. The grounds person will complete housekeeping of all areas of the plant. Working knowledge of safety polices in accordance with OHS, conducting job specific hazard assessments and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of silica dust.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean abstract.
  • Silica Awareness.
  • The ability to work with limited supervision; must be a self-starter.
  • Ability to lift 40+ pounds.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Working knowledge of the Regulations for Industrial Establishments.
  • Working knowledge of other Regulations, e.g. WHMIS, Designated Substances, Smoking in the Workplace, etc.
  • The ability to work in various climate conditions.
  • The ability to work away from home for extended periods.
  • The ability to work overtime as required.
  • The ability to work weekends as required.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic understanding of equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Personal Protective Equipment policy.
  • Ensure a clean work area.
  • Situational Awareness, and blind spot safety.
  • Maintain site Housekeeping.
  • Daily Maintenance and Pre-trip inspections.
  • Care and maintenance of company property.
  • Maintain safe working habits/environment.
  • Required to work overtime and weekends if necessary.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Participate in Aecon Safety Toolbox Meetings.
  • Ensure accidents/incidents are reported.
  • Participate in Hazard Assessments and ensure workplace hazards are identified, and effective mitigation strategies are implemented.
