About The Position

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled grounds maintenance and gardening duties to maintain and beautify assigned District grounds and landscaped areas. The role is responsible for routine upkeep at assigned sites and is distinguished from technical irrigation-system work and from senior or single-trade maintenance positions. This recruitment is open only to current permanent employees of Bellflower Unified School District. The position does not exercise supervisory authority and reports to the Maintenance and Operations Manager.

Requirements

• Any combination equivalent to high school graduation and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities.
• Valid California driver's license.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools and grounds equipment and perform routine maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to apply specialized chemicals to control and eradicate weeds, insects, and other pests.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and observe legal and defensive driving practices.
• Ability to model communications and interactions that respect and include individuals and their languages, abilities, religions, and cultures.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance and gardening duties to beautify assigned grounds and landscaped areas.
• Plant, prune, trim, and water trees, shrubs, hedges, ground cover, and flowers.
• Maintain turf and landscaped areas by mowing, edging, aerating, watering, raking, weeding, and sweeping walkways.
• Remove cuttings, leaves, and debris.
• Prepare soil and apply fertilizers and soil amendments to maintain plant health.
• Operate and maintain power-driven grounds equipment, District vehicles, and standard gardening hand tools.
• Inspect assigned grounds for safety hazards and report concerns to appropriate staff.
• Assist with minor repairs as assigned.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
