About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems. This is an entry point to a career in power-grid construction and maintenance. The position reports to the Foreman and involves outdoor work at construction sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The role requires rigorous physical labor and availability for outages, storms, emergencies, on-call rotations, travel, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Able to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work at job locations for extended periods, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Ability to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction and maintain and repair underground distribution systems, prioritizing safety.
Help install and repair underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation and pulling equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, and excavators.
Follow safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand insulated protective covers used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
