About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in the construction and maintenance of the power grid. The Groundman assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. The work involves outdoor construction and maintenance in varying and sometimes extreme weather, rigorous physical labor, and following safety procedures, including proper use and inspection of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

• Have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
• Be able to stand and walk frequently, handle objects and operate tools or controls with the hands and fingers, and reach with the hands and arms.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Help install and repair underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment.
• Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including participating in an on-call rotation.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
