About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point into construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work includes installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware, as well as maintaining excavation and pulling equipment. The position involves rigorous physical labor and outdoor work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Groundmen may be required to respond to outages, storms, and emergencies, including through an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and other inclement weather.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
