About The Position

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Ground Support Technician to join our Manufacturing department based in Mobile, AL. This role is responsible for the safe off-loading of Major Components Assemblies (MCA) from sea and road transport jigs onto Final Assembly Line (FAL) transportation trolleys and the delivery of MCAs to the Final Assembly Line stations in accordance with the planning schedule. The position involves the safe operations of Overhead Cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 6.5 tons to 50 tons, all with multiple lifting configurations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of tools and equipment including hydraulic lifts and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally carry up to 70lbs/31.7kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/14kg.
  • Ability to push/pull items in office areas and on the shop floor.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at the computer and in meetings.
  • Ability to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time delivering information.
  • Ability to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time and on short notice.
  • Ability to work outside hangers in changing locations.
  • Ability to work on movable lifts at the aircraft at a height of approximately 40 ft.
  • Ability to sometimes work in a ventilated fuel tank with a mask in a confined space.
  • Ability to enter a wing through a 9.8 inch by 17.7 inch oval opening.
  • Ability to walk through office and production areas, around flightline and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces for business interactions.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders as required.
  • Ability to visually inspect parts/components (read small numbers in either Vernier scale or other).

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of experience working with overhead cranes.
  • 3+ years of experience working in aviation ramp operations.
  • 3+ years experience working with heavy equipment.
  • SAP experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead cranes in the Transshipment hangar, A320 Final Assembly Line, Final Phase hangars, and A220 FAL to receive and deliver major aircraft components utilizing a variety of overhead crane configurations and lifting devices.
  • Operate heavy aircraft tow tugs for the movement of aircraft into and out of various hangars in support of pre-Final Operational Testing.
  • Ensure aircraft system readiness and proper configuration for aircraft towing operations, cargo loading, aircraft mooring, electrical power connections, ventilation for air supply, and cabin access in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM).
  • Coordinate logistical support for cannibalization, reallocation, out of sequence requests of aircraft materials, and the return of sea transport jigs.
  • Operate heavy equipment to load/unload shipping containers of MCAs using a 30 k forklift.
  • Operate heavy equipment to support unloading of MCAs from sea jigs at heights of 20-30 feet using an articulating man lift or scissor lifts.
  • Perform fueling activities for ground support equipment (GSE) using portable fuel tanks.
  • Adhere to various policies regarding accurate recording of completed work and work-in-progress by using daily job cards to record activities.
  • Notify affected parties when clerical errors are discovered or documentation is incomplete.
  • Use SOIs to perform each task assigned and document any discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records of EHS and SAP.
  • Ensure required daily pre-operational inspections of GSE are completed.
  • Perform housekeeping, assist with lifting/pushing/pulling, and other duties as assigned.
