About The Position

The Ground Equipment Services Shop Supervisor reports to the Manager, Ground Assets and Facilities and is responsible for leading and supporting the Ground Service Equipment Shop team that maintains company ground service equipment across Canada. The main responsibilities of the Supervisor includes ensuring employee maximum productivity, employee development, acting as the communication link between internal customers and locations, determining the sequence of operations to be performed as well as scheduling, prioritizing, maintaining quality levels and ensuring effective cost control monitoring.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Valid driver's license
  • Mechanically inclined – certified auto mechanic preferred
  • Minimum three years related supervisory experience (Supervising specifically in a Shop environment preferred)
  • Completion of Leadership & Management training or willingness to complete
  • Solid knowledge of KF Health & Safety Policies & Procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; Proficient in M3 an asset
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to see the big picture while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to handle conflict with strong interpersonal communication and relationship building skills
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with strong initiative, positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated customer orientation
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Must be physically fit (i.e.: lifting, standing, reaching, climbing step ladders)
  • Experience with equipment operation (forklift, etc.) preferred
  • General understanding of Transport Canada regulations as applicable is an asset
  • Restricted Area Identification Card (Red Pass / RAIC) certification required (completed in-house post-hire; requires background check)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees in the roles of Ground Service Equipment Shop mechanics and Ramp Services Tech.
  • Maintain clear oversight of mechanics at Vancouver airport (YVR) and support of Hamilton airport (YHM) facilities.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to employees, address employee performance issues, and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Keep sightlines on equipment at other locations throughout Canada and liaise with contract mechanics.
  • Coordinate and allocate staff between tasks and locations for repairs to optimize efficiency.
  • Support the standardization of procedures and asset placement and control across the company.
  • Ensure accurate use of CMMS (Limble) management system for asset management and employee task division.
  • Create, maintain, and approve staff schedules; ensure accurate use of timecards and project numbers.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Ensure safe work practices and safe work conditions.
  • Participate in the selection process for new employees.
  • Support employees in conflict resolution.
  • Support employees in effective team interaction and personal growth.
  • Provide ongoing support of staff and continuous learning/training of new procedures.
  • Ensure all required training is completed and up to date.
  • Source equipment and quotes and set out a clean business plan.
  • Do business cases for end-of-life planning and purchasing replacement equipment.
  • Complete and document staff schedules and time sheets; ensure accurate and appropriate project coding is applied to all hours worked.
  • Be responsible for the overall maintenance of equipment through supervision of Ground Service Equipment mechanics and contractors.
  • Be responsible to prioritize equipment maintenance requirements and compliance.
  • Maintain parts and shops supplies for all locations.
  • Coordinate and allocate staff between jobs to optimize efficiency.
  • Audit the quality of work performed.
  • Organize information and communicate clearly.
  • Set a positive example for team employees in providing professional, efficient customer service and troubleshooting and maintaining a calm and professional approach in urgent situations.
  • Make recommendations to the manager and generate alternatives; ensure operational risks are clearly communicated.
  • Receive and action customer feedback on the quality and efficiency of facilities services provided and research to improve deficiencies.
