About The Position

During the winter season, the Grooming Shift Foreperson is responsible for overseeing and training grooming operators to be accountable for the finished product on a section of the mountain. The Grooming Shift Foreman is responsible for overseeing and training a team of up to 20 groomers, coordinating grooming activities, and ensuring the finished product meets resort standards. During the summer months this position is responsible for independently operating a variety of heavy machinery to complete excavation, grading, and construction tasks. This role requires experience with multiple types of equipment and a strong understanding of safety and efficiency. Laboring is expected as needed to complete tasks.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 5+ years previous grooming experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle background check are required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Willing to work overnight shifts
  • Strong communication skills, especially via two-way radio
  • Competent in grooming all areas of the mountain and all levels of terrain (beginner, intermediate, advanced, expert)
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and construction site protocols
  • Expert use of multiple models of grooming machines
  • Expert knowledge navigating the mountain
  • Broad base of mechanical knowledge and skills relevant to grooming, including the operation and maintenance of grooming equipment, including welding, blasting, operation of heavy equipment, etc.

  • Ability to perform all job duties working in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while operating snow grooming and other heavy equipment
  • Good physical condition, with the ability to lift 100+ pounds frequently

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise and coordinate snow grooming operations for assigned shift.
  • Coordinate grooming activities with snowmaking and lift departments
  • Perform the duties of a working foreman for a shift of groomers: train new employees in technical aspects of job, as well as operating policies and procedures; plan and issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress and check completed work; assist in performance evaluation; bring special personnel problems to the attention of the manager; assist in planning staffing needs, interviewing and hiring, and work schedules
  • Oversee and assist with regular operation of grooming equipment, including monitoring quality and quantity of snow; implement changes; equipment maintenance; monitoring weather conditions
  • Regularly inspect and perform maintenance checks to grooming equipment and report any issues to Vehicle Maintenance
  • Assist groomers with unusual problems; notify Manager or Supervisor of any problems or conditions requiring special attention
  • Prepare any required records related to grooming operations, including personnel record, driver logs, disciplinary reports, etc.
  • Ensure the proper safety procedures are followed by all employees
  • Supervise the proper use and maintenance of a variety of tools, equipment, vehicles, keys, and supplies used in grooming
  • Conduct and execute employee performance reviews
  • Supervise and assist with a variety of summer construction and maintenance projects
  • Always provide superior service to our guests (internal and external).
  • Follow the Resort Etiquette Guidelines while interacting with the guests and respond to all guests in a courteous, efficient manner
  • Motivate staff and provide a positive work environment
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
  • Functional and partial administrative supervision of up to 20 groomers in winter
  • Direct supervision of all operators on the shift, including quality control checks nightly through visual inspections, radio check-ins as well as ride-alongs when needed
  • Safe work practice in and around construction sites, maintaining situational awareness.
  • Understand OSHA regulations for excavations, safe trenching, and lifting
  • Operate a range of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, skidders, loaders, haul trucks, skid steers, and graders.
  • Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and material transportation with precision.
  • Conduct daily inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications.
  • Follow site safety regulations and report any hazards or equipment issues.
  • Train and mentor equipment operators as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisors, engineers, and crew members for efficient workflow.
