About The Position
Destination Pet is hiring a Groomer at Escape the Crate in Garden City. The Groomer provides grooming services that help pets look and feel their best, while delivering a calm, kind, and safe experience for each animal. The role includes grooming a range of breeds and coat types, communicating with pet parents about grooming needs and coat care, and collaborating with the team to prepare pets and coordinate pickup. The position offers flexible scheduling and quality-over-quantity expectations. Employees may choose hourly pay for their first 60 days or commission-based pay, which includes a $500 sign-on bonus. Commission rates are 50%, or 40% when working with a bather; basic baths, if applicable, pay 30% commission. Professional equipment is provided and sharpened twice a year. Full-time benefits and part-time benefit options are available.
Requirements
- Professional grooming experience is required.
- Proven experience grooming a wide range of breeds and coat types.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and safely manage large or nervous dogs.
- Ability to work in a physically active environment with heat, cold, water, and noise.
- Time management, attention to detail, and a customer-first mindset.
- Familiarity with pet behavior, stress signals, and safe handling practices.
- Clear communication with clients, teammates, and pets.
- Reliability, calmness under pressure, and enthusiasm for continued learning.
- A love of animals and a commitment to treating each one with care.
Responsibilities
- Snip, shape, and style pets according to owner preferences or breed standards.
- Trim nails, clean ears, brush teeth, and tidy pets.
- Bathe dogs or work with bathers to prepare pets for grooming.
- Discuss grooming needs, coat care, and trends with pet parents.
- Keep the grooming station neat and tools sharp.
- Assist the front desk when groomed pets are ready for pickup.
- Provide a calm, kind, and safe experience for every animal in care.
