About The Position

Destination Pet is hiring a Groomer at Escape the Crate in Garden City. The Groomer provides professional grooming services while delivering a calm, kind, and safe experience for each animal. The role includes grooming pets according to owner preferences or breed standards, communicating with pet parents about grooming and coat care, and helping maintain a clean, well-equipped grooming station. The position offers a choice of hourly pay for the first 60 days or commission-based pay, with a $500 sign-on bonus for the commission option. Flexible scheduling and quality-over-quantity expectations are offered. The role reports to the General Manager.

Requirements

• Professional grooming experience.
• Proven experience grooming a wide range of breeds and coat types.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and safely manage large or nervous dogs.
• Ability to work in a physically active environment with heat, cold, water, and noise, and exposure to fur, cleaning chemicals, wet dogs, accidents, and unpredictable animal behavior.
• Time management, attention to detail, and a customer-first mindset.
• Familiarity with pet behavior, stress signals, and safe handling practices.
• Clear communication with clients, teammates, and pets.
• Reliability, calmness under pressure, and enthusiasm for continued learning.
• Love of animals and commitment to treating each animal with care.

Responsibilities

• Snip, shape, and style pets according to owner preferences or breed standards.
• Trim nails, clean ears, brush teeth, and tidy the tail area.
• Bathe dogs or work with bathers to prepare pets for grooming.
• Discuss grooming needs, coat care, and trends with pet parents.
• Keep the grooming station neat and tools sharp.
• Coordinate with the front desk when pets are ready for pickup.
• Provide a calm, kind, and safe experience for every animal in care.
• Represent Destination Pet’s values of compassion, quality, and community.
