About The Position

The Grocery Night Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The clerk supports the Customer 1st strategy, encourages excellent customer service, and demonstrates the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position includes answering customer questions and making product suggestions, recommending grocery items and sharing information about specials, and ensuring merchandise is fresh, properly labeled, stocked, and inventoried. The clerk also supports food safety, temperature monitoring, safety programs, equipment inspection, and reporting discrepancies, incidents, risks, or illegal activity to management.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Help customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make product suggestions.
Recommend grocery items to customers and inform them of grocery specials.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise, and provide customers with fresh products they have ordered.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Display a positive attitude.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance needs and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
