About The Position

The Grocery/Bulk Assistant assists the Grocery/Bulk Manager in operating and supporting the profitability of the Grocery/Bulk department. The role includes customer service, department merchandising and inventory support, assistance with personnel and daily store operations, and maintaining product, safety, and company standards. The position works five days and 40 hours per week, on a schedule based on store needs that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, and requires attendance at mandatory store meetings. It may involve limited Manager on Duty responsibilities, but is not intended to serve as the overall Manager on Duty for the store. Employees are expected to be hands-on and to complete assigned tasks as needed; duties may change.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
One year of grocery or retail experience preferred; natural foods experience is a plus.
One year of experience supervising others preferred.
Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and keep certifications current and registered if applicable.
Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on the task at hand.
Sense of urgency in completing tasks.
Excellent customer service skills.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Ability to take direction and follow through.
Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

Provide World Class Customer Service as a top priority and answer customer questions according to company standards and policies, including using Health Supportive or nutritional-support statements.
Demonstrate integrity, responsibility, and excellence, and adhere to company policies.
Create inviting, full, and shoppable departments; ensure in-stock products and conditions meet company standards.
Assist the Grocery/Bulk Manager with ordering, maintaining accurate inventory, managing margin, COGs and profitability, minimizing shrink, and maximizing effective purchasing.
Offer and follow up on special orders.
Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
Assist with and participate in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
Assist in training and monitoring department personnel, including assigning tasks and following up on their completion.
Conduct active and passive demonstrations.
Work with the department manager to address department performance issues.
Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities.
Perform register functions, including backup cashiering, customer returns, customer complaints, and covering register shift changes and scheduled breaks.
Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
Continually increase product knowledge.
Use SAP, inventory management software, email, and other information systems as needed.
Work five days and 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays according to store needs, and attend mandatory store meetings.
Complete other tasks assigned by a manager as needed.
