About The Position

The position involves maintaining the current investment view on an existing investment portfolio, performing new investment analysis, and contributing to key strategic projects. The role requires a strong understanding of portfolio companies, industry dynamics, financial analysis, and risk assessment. The incumbent will support senior investment officers in evaluating new investment proposals, conduct due diligence, and prepare investment reports. Additionally, the role involves creating presentations and reports for internal reporting and handling time-sensitive requests. Requirements

  • Two to four years of relevant work experience
  • Undergraduate degree with exceptional GPA and high level of academic achievement
  • In-depth sector knowledge and command of specific industry and competitive factors
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to think critically and understand financial statement analysis as applied to investments
  • Collaborative team player with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at once
  • Project management skills with the ability to contact and follow up with key constituent parties (legal, accounting, portfolio) to move joint work forward
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Perform preliminary analysis and screening of potential new transactions.
  • Formulate and recommend internal risk rating (credit rating) during Annual Review process and new transaction assessments based upon fundamental research and comparative data.
  • Prioritize work flow from multiple constituents including lending officers, credit officers, portfolio managers, trading desk.
  • One of the team members recommending investment opportunities to Portfolio Managers and Investment Committees

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of portfolio companies, industry dynamics, key success factors, risks and opportunities.
  • Author detailed annual and investment reviews, Loan Review and Rating Change memos that cover financial analysis, peer comparisons, competitive positioning, industry reviews, macroeconomic conditions, event risk, pro forma modeling, quantitative risk assessment, relative value, exposure limits, and appropriate maturities.
  • Recommend changes to credit ratings or outlook based on company performance and/or industry conditions and present these recommendations to senior members of the industry team and to members of the Credit and Portfolio management teams.
  • Perform the analysis and drafting of quarterly internal reporting for investments which have underperformed or are at risk for loss (“Loan Review”), including drafting descriptions of what has caused the company to come under stress, and what their prospects are for recovery or further degradation.
  • Report on material changes in company credit profiles for public entities within our portfolio (i.e. mergers, large acquisitions, external rating agency changes, etc.), with a summary of affected holdings and impact on credit profile and prospects. Provide timely updates to our credit officers, portfolio managers, and other lending teams.
  • Provide material support and independent analysis to senior investment officers in evaluating the performance and prospects of new investment proposals for their risks and likely returns (i.e. performing investment due diligence).
  • Help draft investment reports prepared in conjunction with senior members of the investment team with detailed description of the company’s business, core strengths and risks, including an overview of the industry and competitive dynamics.
  • Responsible for the development and/or manipulation of spreadsheet modeling, the preparation of financial projections, and modifying projections for a range of sensitivity cases.
  • Draw upon industry knowledge to identify the most relevant industry research reports and data to identify market trends, considerations and/or concerns.
  • Select, analyze, and report on the financial and operational aspects of comparative companies to assist in ascertaining an investment’s relative merits.
  • Travel and represent BCF at management presentations and actively participate in the due diligence process when evaluating new investment opportunities.
  • Create ad-hoc presentations and reports for internal reporting purposes related to various items such as portfolio risks or team performance.
  • Handle time-sensitive requests from internal groups for information and/or action. For example, public bond opportunities and/or requests for information from senior management.
