About The Position

Grinding Manager leads our grinding operations within a precision machining environment. This role is responsible for overseeing all grinding processes—including surface, cylindrical, centerless, and CNC grinding—to ensure the production of high-tolerance components that meet stringent quality standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in grinding operations within a precision machining environment
  • Strong understanding of grinding principles, materials, and tooling
  • Experience with CNC grinding machines and programming (e.g., Cincinnati)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 & TS-16949 quality systems

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ERP systems and shop floor data collection tools
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement training
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily grinding operations across multiple machines and shifts
  • Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality and efficiency
  • Oversee setup, operation, and troubleshooting of manual and CNC grinding equipment
  • Coordinate with production planning to prioritize jobs and allocate resources effectively
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to determine grinding requirements
  • Optimize grinding parameters, wheel selection, and dressing techniques for performance and longevity
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes
  • Maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes as required
  • Supervise and mentor grinding technicians and operators
  • Conduct training on equipment, safety, and best practices
  • Foster a culture of servant leadership, accountability, precision, continuous learning, and teamwork within our core values
  • Ensure all parts meet dimensional and surface finish specifications
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming parts
  • Maintain documentation for process control and traceability
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Identify and implement lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste and improve throughput
  • Evaluate new grinding technologies and equipment for potential integration
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive improvements in efficiency ratio, cycle time, scrap rate, and uptime
